Munsch book contest won by Labrador town

Robert Munsch visited Rigolet, Labrador, about 20 years ago. The town will be the focus of a new book by the author.  The northern Labrador town of Rigolet has won a competition to be the focus of the next book by children's author Robert Munsch.Rigolet won the highest number of votes among three communities – including Fort McMurray, Alberta and Brussels, Ont. – competing online in the contest held by Scholastic Canada.

The Pick-A-Munch competition, which drew 150,000 votes, encouraged people to pick their favourite Munsch story idea.

The former schoolteacher, who lives in Guelph, Ont., created a story based in Rigolet after he visited the community about 20 years ago. He has performed it at readings, but it has never been published in a book.
The story is about an ice-fishing trip featuring a young girl named Cheryl that takes an unexpected turn.Munsch, author of dozens of children's books, including the bestelling Love you Forever, is expected to visit Rigolet in May.
