There is something about this country, perhaps it was the isolation from the old modes of thought, that permitted people to make decisions that were based on the reality of another person's humanity and not just a buncho of old assumptions. Canada has fought to shrug off the tainted old ways of thinking and has not always been successful but in the main part we are climbing to higher ground in recognizing the essential humanity of all people. Here is an early historical example where the first immigrant Canadians, the Canadians of Lower Canada, led the way.
